'leitronium' WINS in Chicago...
chicago irish film festival

March 2012 - The 'cutbacks' short film 'leitronium' wins the inaugural Irish Consulate Award at The 13th Chicago Irish Film Festival.

The Consulate of Ireland Award recognizes a short film that best celebrates Irish culture or film production. The festival is extremely grateful to Aidan Cronin, Consul General of Ireland and Tim Reilly, Vice Consul General of Ireland for inaugurating this award and who were both on hand for the presentation.
The award was announced by Ireland’s Minister of Housing, Jan O’Sullivan, who spoke about the amazing growth and innovation in filmmaking that has occurred since the 1990’s in Ireland.
Special thanks to Judith Blackburn, a staunch Mister Heaney fan...

'leitronium' in Montreal...

The 'cutbacks' short film 'leitronium' was screened by Cine Gael Montreal Irish Film Society. Heather Mc Dougall writes...

The evening was a great success and the films screened to a
packed house of 160 audience members. Many of them had been there last year, and were especially tickled to see your sequel and to keep up with Mr Heaney's exploits.

Thanks again for participating in our festival. I look forward to
seeing more of your work in the future!

February 2012 - 'cutbacks' has entered into a partnership with studenty - an award winning online community for students in the U.K. and Ireland.
For two years, Cutbacks.ie has captured the hearts of Irish audiences and earned acclaim for its unique animation style and satirical portrayal of recession-plagued Ireland. From Enda to Michael D, Jedward to Séamus Heaney, Cutbacks.ie has re-imagined our tormentors and heroes alike in a wonderfully witty way. Visit Cutbacks.ie to be inspired and to view more of their amazing animation.

'cutbacks' in New York Times!

January 2nd 2012 - 'cutbacks' gets a nice mention in Doreen Carvajal's article 'In Ireland, Making Art From the Rubble' for The New York Times and The International Herald Tribune...
For his documentary 'Stuffing The Tiger', Donald Taylor Black has filmed a collection of artists. They include a poet, a writer, a singer, painters, photographers and the animator of “Cutbacks,” a series of stop motion, Web episodes featuring puppets made with paper and scraps that deliver searing commentary about Ireland’s plight.
For the past two years, David Quin, 60, a lecturer at the film school, has been making and posting online weekly 30-second episodes of “Cutbacks,” which have proved popular with a predominantly male Irish audience. A short film featuring the puppets was shown at the 2011 Corona Cork Film Festival .
“It makes me furious,” said Mr. Quin, who has mocked Ireland’s prime minister, Enda Kenny, as a budget marionette in a suit and dangling strings. “We had absolutely no say in what’s happening.”

'cutbacks' in Irish Times 141111...

Our 'cutbacks' film 'leitronium' received a great mention in The Irish Times review of The 2011 Corona Cork Film Festival...

Leitronium marks another exercise in hilarious stop-motion celebrity spotting from the clever folk at Cutbacks. Following on from the team’s amusing re-inventions of Jedward, the new film casts Seamus Heaney as a middle-aged detective in the mould of Inspector Morse. Is there a vast international conspiracy to mine local bodies for the valuable and completely mythical substance known as Leitronium? Don’t bet against it.
